Lesson 1
Buying and selling
Throughout this class, we are going to learn Arabic conversation which will be practical to life and useful for you in case you travel to or move to live in an Arab country. The conversations are going to include money matters, stores, clothing, restaurants, etc.
Vocabulary:
  تَدُلَّني   / tadullani  / recommend        Verb
Sentence:

"هَلْ تَسْتَطيعْ   ….

 "hal tastati'    Can you ….. ?           

Conversation:
In this lesson, we are going to learn a conversation that you may use when you buy from boutiques. If you want to ask someone about a good boutique, you may say,
Customer:
"هَلْ تَسْتَطيعْ أَنْ تَدُلَّني عَلى مَحَلّ مَلابِس جَيِّدْ؟"

"hal tastati' an tadullani a'la mahal malabis jayyid?"
 "Can you recommend a good boutique to me?"
Once you are in the boutique, the seller may ask you,
Seller:
"هَلْ تَحتاجُ الى مُساعَدَة؟"
  "hal tahtaju  ila musa'adah?"
"Is someone helping you?"
In colloquial language, the seller asks you,
"بِدّكْ مُساعَدِة؟"
 "biddak musa'adeh?"
"Is someone helping you?"
You may answer,
Customer:

"شُكرَاً, أَنا أَتَفَرّجْ فَقَطْ."
 "shukran, ana atafarraj fakat."
"Thanks, I'm just browsing."
In colloquial language, you may say,

"شُكْرَاً, أَنا بَتْفَرَّجْ بَسْ."                            

"shukran, ana batfarraj bas."
 "Thanks, I'm just browsing."
Customer:

أُريد...""
"urid…"
"I would like…"
In colloquial language, you may say,
"بِدّي..."
 "biddi…"
"I would like…"
 

If you want to buy shoes for your children, you can say to the seller,
أُريدُ أَنْ أَشْتَرِي أَحْذِيَة لِلْأَوْلادْ.
Uridu un ashtare ahtheya lela'wlad.
I would like to buy children's shoes.
if you want to buy a checkered shirt for your husband, you can say to the seller,
أُريدُ أَنْ أَشْتَرِي قَميصْ كَاروهاتْ رِجَّالي وَ رَبْطَة عُنُقْ.
Uridu un  ashtare kamees karohat rejjali wa rabtet u'nuk.
I would like to buy a checkered shirt and tie.
The colloquial word for rabtet u'nuk is "grafe" غْرافِة""
أُريدُ جِلْباباً أَسْوداً وَنِقابَاً أَبْيَضاً.
Uridu jilbaban aswadan wa nekaban abyadan.
I would like a black Jilbab and a Niqap.

أَخْضَرْGreen    akhdar
أَزْرَقْ Blue      azrak

زَهْري  Pink    zahri
أُرْجُواني Purple urjuwani
 
مَلابِسُ النِّساءْ:Women's Clothes: malabesu alnesa'
فُسْتانْ/ثوب thob/Dress fustan
فُسْتانْ سَهْرَةEvening dressfustan sahra
سُتْرَة فَرُو Fur jacketsutrat faru
مِعْطَفْ فَرُو Fur coat me'taf faru
قَفَّازاتْ Gloves kaffazat
